UA Podcast: The Impact of Gaming on Education

UA Podcast: The Impact of Gaming on Education

In the era of smart phones and plentiful access to the internet, children around the world are playing more games than ever before. They are also learning while playing those games.  We know, for example, that the structure of games; having clear goals, skills challenges, feedback, etc, makes the experience extremely interesting.  We also know that gamers spend hours and hours in an effort to be successful in the high social and complex work of online gaming.  What if we could harness these characteristics and make them part of the classroom experience?

Gerard Lafond is a Game Designer and a Marketer who moved into the field of education.  This week on the podcast we feature a talk he gave recently at the #140edu conference entitled “How the Internet and Games can Impact Education.” In it he outlines in what ways gaming and education can and should come together in order to more meaningfully engage young people today.
