The first American space station, 40 years ago today.
Launched into orbit on May 14th, 1973, Skylab was the United States’ first space station. Wrought with problems from the moment of its launch, NASA managed to repair Skylab and conduct several ground breaking experiments until it finally re-entered the earth’s atmosphere and disintegrated in 1979. 40 years and 3 space stations later, the world still recognizes this iconic figure as a pioneer of space exploration.
