November 13 was the only day this year that non-astronomers were able to admire the sun’s atmosphere, or the corona. Ususualy this layer of gas that surrounds the sun is hidden by the sun’s own light, but early in the morning the moon passed by, blocked the sunlight and revealed the corona. The eclipse lasted two minutes and was only visible from the northern tip of Australia. Thousands of people took their glasses to the Australian beaches to watch nature’s show on this mostly sunny day.
