Carlos López took this picture in Karasjok, Norway, on February 12, 2012. Though he was said there were few chances of seeing the Northern Lights, he was lucky and was able to capture them in beautiful images such as this one. This year, as well as 2013 and 2014, is really good for contemplating this amazing phenomena, which occurs as a result of solar particles impacting the Earth’s atmosphere. We are now in a period of solar maximum, which happens when solar cycle activity is at its peak, this meaning that Northern Lights may be more frequent and spectacular.
