This ingenious artifact is made of iron, has movable fingers and an internal ratchet. It weights around half a kilo (1 lb), according to MyArmoury website, and is estimated to have been built around 1580.

Below you can check an explanation about how a similar artificial hand worked. This second image refers to Götz von Berlichingen’s Iron Hand, claimed to be the earliest surviving hand of this kind (made between 1504 and 1512).
